Description 작품 소개
Joo Se-juk, Heo Jeong-suk, Go Myeong-ja. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were three women who were determined to change the world. Three Women follows these women through momentous historical events, beginning with the origins of the Korean Communist Party in 1920 and ending with its forced dissolution and the tragic aftermath of the Korean War—its legacy still seen in the ongoing division between North and South Korea. Although the names of Park Heon-yeong, Im Won-geun, and Kim Danya have been widely recorded and acknowledged as the preeminent founders of the Korean Communist Party, these three women have largely been relegated to the sidelines of history, only gaining recognition as their wives and lovers. By recounting the lives of these three women revolutionaries, Three Women seeks to illuminate a long-forgotten history that has nevertheless fundamentally shaped Korean society into its present condition. Traversing Seoul, Shanghai, Moscow, and Pyeongyang, these women fiercely fought to materialize a new world, torn apart by war and imperialism, based on principles of freedom and equality. Expansive in scope and meticulously researched, Three Women traces the complicated history of Korea and its entanglements with numerous ideologies and foreign powers during an age where the world as they knew it was crumbling around them. Above all else, Three Women articulates the indelible scars of the past on the present, excavating the stories that have long remained buried underneath the tomb of official history.
