Description 작품 소개

Like a ‘ding’, which refers to the damaged part of a surfboard caused by hitting a wave, this novel depicts in an omnibus format the lives of those who overcome the wounds they got from someone.

The story is composed of the stories of five main characters. Jiwon, who had lived with her father since her mother’s death, leaves her hometown and heads for Seoul after an incident. After her father with whom she had an estranged relationship passes away, she returns to her hometown for a while and meets Joomi, her best friend in her school days. There, Joomi is living with her mother, running her family business, a motel and a pub since her best friend, her younger brother and her father has left. Jaein, who’s staying long term at the motel Joo-mi runs, is the lover of P, the man who died in the room numbered 401 of the motel. Visiting Korea from Hawaii, she works at a surfing shop to trace his last time. Youngsik, who has lived spiritlessly since he lost his child due to his fault, is regaining the meaning of living after opening a small cart bar in front of Joomi’s motel. Xuan, who has been left alone with his colleague’s death in the fire, has a new hope for the life in the foreign country while living with Youngsik in his house.

These five characters are closely connected to one another. Though they are aware of the others’ wounds, they do not intervene actively in the others’ lives but just opens their hearts.

Joomi describes who she wants to be: ‘not the one who has been left but the one who is just there when someone returns saying “I’m back”. The one who’s always there whenever you contact.’ They want to be that kind of a person to one another. So, at the night when Jiwon sleeps in the last father’s house, Joomi is by her side, Ji-won and Youngsik are by Joomi’s side, Youngsik and Joomi are by Jaein’s side, Joomi and Xuan are Youngsik’s side, and Youngsik is by Xuan’s side.
