Deriving from Pung-yo, the title of a poem written in the style of Hyang-ga poetry of the Silla Dynasty, the title of the 7th poetry collection of LEE Seong-Bok, literally means that ‘came (來 rae),’ ‘tried to become one (如 yeo),’ ‘saw sorrow (哀 ae),’ ‘stood against it (反 ban),’ ‘went through much (多 da),’ and ‘spread out like silk (羅 ra), which refers to a human life. The poet’s thought on the truth of life, where none of us can avoid the path of birth, death, sex and eating, has been brought to life by his sensitive and profound language to inspire readers.
Born in Sangju, Gyeongsangbuk-do in 1952. He studied French literature as an undergraduate and a graduate student at Seoul National University. In 1977 he made his debut in the journal, Literature and Society. His poetry anthologies include When Will A Rolling Rock Awaken? Mt. Geumsan, South Sea On the Edge of That Summer, Memories of a Holly, Ah, Those Without A Mouth and The Moon Has Watermarks On Its Forehead. He is the recipient of KIM Soo Young and Sowol Poetry Literary Awards.
