Description 작품 소개
Since the success of her novel, My Sweet City, JEONG Yi-Hyun has been recognized as one of the most talented young writers today. Her second collection Lies for Today contains ten autobiographical stories that reflect her past with wit and spunk. The protagonist in the title story meets an elderly man who resembles the late President PARK Chung-Hee, who was assassinated in 1979. She excludes the historical significance or socio-political aspects of PARK’s era, but instead pushes ahead with her plot, propelled by the implication that this elderly man could be the real PARK Chung-Hee, while playing with the image of the man as carved in the mind of every Korean. Another story, “Sampung Department Store”, also takes the motif from real life, this time from the catastrophic collapse of the Sampung Department Store building in Seoul in the 1990s. The story unfolds along with the protagonist’s various memories about the department store and the events of 1995.
JEONG Yi-Hyun
Born in 1972, in Seoul. She has published two collections of short stories, Romantic Love and Society, and Lies for Today; and three novels, My Sweet City, You Don’t Know, Foundation of love. She made a debut receiving the New Writer's Literary Award from Literary and Society, the quarterly magazine by Moonji Publishing; the LEE Hyo-Seok Literary Award and the Contemporary Literary Award.
