Description 작품 소개
A queer woman born in Korea during the Korean War discovers a new life in Germany
This is the autobiography of a woman born in Korea when the Korean War broke out and later moved to Germany and came out. Leaving her impoverished and deprived childhood behind, she immigrated to the Western European country at age 22. Studying alone in a country with a language and culture different from those of her homeland, she eventually became a nurse, met a man, and got married. But her true destiny appeared after she met her eventual female partner. The nurse got a divorce and shacked up with her female lover. Eager to keep learning, she received her master’s degree in theology in 2003 from Humboldt University of Berlin. In 2005, she canceled her life insurance policy to establish the intercultural hospice Dong Ban Ja, the first in Germany to provide hospice care for immigrants. For this, she received a plaque of appreciation from German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Overcoming breast and uterine cancer, she resides in Berlin with her partner and teaches hospice care. This book is conducting German translation with the support of the Korean Literature Translation Institute.
