1992년 『작가세계』로 데뷔하여 시작 17년째 꾸준한 시작 활동을 이어온 함기석 시인의 세번째 시집. 단순히 우리 살아가는 얘기를 진술하거나 재구성하는 선에서의 타협이 아니라 눈이 달린 언어들이 제각각 원하는 위치로 가 새 삶에 눈을 뜨면서 저절로 살이 붙고 살이 오르는 이야기들을 집중적으로 보여준다. 아무런 욕심 없이 아무런 계산 없이 그저 당당히 제 동화적인 발상에서 비롯한 서사를 펼치는 와중에 뜨끔한 칼날이 존재하며, 때가 묻어야 하는데 때 묻지 않음으로 말미암아 아직 건강한 시, 그러나 그만큼 아픈 시, 그래도 자랄 여지가 있어 희망인 시들을 그려내는 시인의 모습이 꿈과 상상력 속에 발송과 전달이라는 운송의 행위가 얼마나 깊이 내재되어 있는가를 일깨워준다.
