Description 작품 소개

서울과학기술대학 문창과 교수로 재직 중인 작가 박금산이 9년의 집필 기간을 거쳐 완성한 첫 번째 장편소설. 2001년 등단한 이래 욕망과 인간성을 날카롭게 통찰해 온 박금산 작가는 이 작품에서 강렬한 이야기와 일상의 틀을 전복하는 불온함을 통해 어디에나 있을 법한 공간 안에서 비일상을 펼쳐 보인다.

앞을 볼 수 없는 여자 레지나와 말할 수 없는 남자 세키, 자기 앞에 놓인 현실을 바라보지 않는 여자 아녜스와 자신이 알고 있는 것을 말하지 않는 남자 민우가 엇갈린 운명 가운데 서로를 향한 각자의 욕망을 이야기하는 이 작품은 결손가정, 장애인, 미성년자 간음 등 그간 금기시되어 온 소재를 있는 그대로 다루며 우리 안에 내재한 신체적.정신적 장애와 욕망의 함수 관계를 날카롭게 파헤치고 있다.

그동안 우리 문학에서 '본격적인 욕망의 대상'으로 다루는 것을 암묵적으로 막아 왔던 이와 같은 '비윤리적 욕망'을 일말의 가장도 은폐도 없이 날것으로 다룬 이 소설에 대해 문학평론가 강유정은 "오히려 뜨거운 감정적 분개의 노선을 버리고 윤리적 지탄이 될 만한 사건들을 향해 걸어"가는 작품이라는 평을 남겼다.

<아일랜드 식탁>은 모두와 같은 욕망의 주체이면서도 한편으로는 보호의 대상이 될 수밖에 없는 장애인과 미성년자의 이중적인 입장에 대해서, 아름다운 시각 장애인 레지나와 어른스러운 여고생 아녜스를 둘러싼 서로 다른 이야기를 통해 우리 안에 내재된 가장 분명하고 내밀한 욕망을 이야기하고 있다.

박금산

Park Keum-san박금산

Park Keum-san is a novelist. Park made his literary debut with “Accomplice” for the literary journal Munye Joongang in 2001. Kim’s novels include Island Table and Pretending to Exist, Not to Exist. He has also published a serialized novel Body Painting and the short story collections A Birthday Present and Did She See My Toes?
