Description 작품 소개

Shin Seryeon was born to an irresponsible single mother who went on to have multiple other children by different fathers. Consequently, she spent most of her life cleaning up after other people, clinging to dreams of becoming a writer as she juggled studies and housework. But finally, in her early thirties and having broken up with Yunju, her boyfriend of thirteen years, Seryeon decides on a fresh start. She moves out on her own and starts a business as a tarot reader in a small corner of a café owned by a friend of her old friend Yunha.

Business goes smoothly for Seryeon. Although clients can be frustratingly oblivious or coy, she coaxes the right questions out of them so that her readings will provide the direction they lack. Little by little, she befriends the café owner (referred to only as “Manager”) and learns to help out behind the counter in addition to her work at her table. The only doubt in her new life is the occasional text from Yunju, who doesn’t seem to be over her.

One day, Seryeon performs a compatibility reading for a couple that is clearly at the end of their relationship. The girlfriend is asking for affirmations of affection from her boyfriend, who doesn’t seem especially enthusiastic. The reading ends with a vague result, and the couple leaves—at which point Yunju suddenly enters the café, which is now deserted. It is obvious that both Seryeon and Yunju have lingering regrets about the past, and when Yunju reaches for Seryeon’s hand, she does not move away. But as if on cue, the boyfriend of the couple returns to the café because his girlfriend has forgotten her bracelet at the same table. But even when he leaves, the moment of potential reconciliation has passed, and Seryeon and Yunju do not get any closer.

It is around this time that Yunha comes to Seryeon with a job opportunity as a webtoon writer. Seryeon has always dreamed of being a writer, and being inspired by a client who requests a reading about her future career, she decides to accept the offer, which will allow her to juggle both tarot reading and webtoon writing. She goes in for an interview and learns that she will work with a popular artist who is having difficulty coming up with a new story of his own.
