Pyo Myoung-hee made her literary debut when she won the Changbi Prize for New Figures in Literature in 2001 with her short story, “Nocturnal Scenery.” She is the author of the short story collections Exit No.3 and Housemate, and the novels, Off Road Diary and The Gold Rush.

Kim Sok Bom was born in 1925 in the Ikaino district of Osaka. As a writer who has spent most of his life in Japan and writes in Japanese, Kim's work is considered abstruse even compared to other Japanese writers. Kim, who began publishing in Japanese in the early 1970s, made the decision to use Japanese to write about Korea and his struggle with his Zainichi identity. Thus, while written in Japanese, Kim's work is a far cry from the Japanese canon in both subject matter and style. Kim, too, refuses for his work to be considered as Japanese literature.

Kwon Bee-Young made her literary debut in 1995 winning the Silla Literary Award. She continued to participate in literary clubs and published her first collection of short stories, Geu gyeourui uhwa (그 겨울의 우화 That Winter's Fable), in 2006. She became interested in the life of Princess Deokhye, the youngest daughter of Emperor Gojong, while traveling in Japan, and subsequently published the novel Deokyeongju (덕혜옹주 Princess Deokhye). The novel went on to sell more than 700,000 copies, was translated into five languages including Russian, and was made into a film in 2016.
