Shin Jaehyo (1812-1884) is a pansori theorist and writer from the Joseon Dynasty. He was a chungin (upper middle class) in the Joseon Dynasty but was later granted the status of yangban for his contribution to the country. He gathered pansori experts from each region and appreciated the art with other yangban, even educating people on pansori. Hwon Lee published eight books including the books of poetry A Two-eyed Being, Let Us Not Be Too Desperate, You Are the Only Sentence I Couldn't Abandon; a book of Poems and proses The Young Let Them to Believe in Poetry; and books of essays Elegantly and Frivolously, The Less Seen, Dang-geun Market, Anyways. Kim Jeong-hwan

김정환

Kim Jeong-hwan (b. 1954) made his literary debut in 1980 when Quarterly Changbi published his “Mapo, At a Riverside Town” and five other poems. He has authored numerous poetry collections over his long career, including A Song That Cannot Be Erased (1982), The Biography of Yellow Jesus (1983), and We the Laborers (1989). He has received the 2007 Baek Seok Prize for Literature and the 2017 Manhae Literature Prize. An Embroidery Sample (Asia Publishers, 2019) carries his Korean poems alongside his own English translations.
