Recipient of the 2025 Arts Council Korea Literature Fellowship
"Love is everything. I hope that all of you get the chance to experience as many kinds of love as possible. It's the best part of being human. If you're in love now, don't hesitate. You can never replicate what you feel today. Never forget that." (Excerpt from Wisdom House interview, Oct. 26, 2023)
1. Life
Born in 1980, Cho Woori studied playwriting and taught writing to high school students. She spent her 20s writing catalogs for art exhibitions and album reviews, her 30s on childcare, and made her literary debut at the age of forty winning the BIR Blue Fiction Award for Anyway, I Don’t Ever Want to Turn Twenty. She currently enjoys an active career as a children's and YA writer.
2. Writing
Cho Woori is a writer in her 40s writing children's and YA literature. Cho's work features various teen protagonists from LGBTQ to disabled individuals, unmarried mothers, dropouts, student interns from specialized vocational schools, and sexually curious female teenagers. The author's uncanny knack for getting teen dialogue exactly right coupled with a speedy narrative style provides a high-resolution portrait of teens here and today, both at school and without. While her protagonists sometimes find themselves in seemingly hopeless situations due to unfortunate choices, they eventually find their way, albeit slowly, always directed by love.
