Kim Junghyun (1957-) is a South Korean novelist. Formerly a detective in the violent crime division, Kim debuted as a novelist in 1991 with the work Hamjeong (함정 The Trap). Kim is known for detailed depictions of the value of family in times of modern financial crisis and the dissolution of the family unit. Heo Gyun (許筠, 1569–1618) was a civil official, writer, thinker and reformer in the mid-Joseon period. He left a large body of writing opposing Korea’s medieval etiquette-based education and criticizing the social contradictions of his time. Heo met a tragic death by execution after being implicated in a case of treason.
