A Forced World
A Forced World proves that a human being can exist simply within his imagination. Written during the two seasons when the author was staying in San Francisco, this travel novel is, according to JUNG Young-Moon, the author’s attempt to write his contemplation that could be completely trivial, useless and nonsensical. The author also said it was loaded with stories about things that he did not see as they were seen, that he did not hear as they were heard, that he did not feel as they were felt, and that he did not experience as they were experienced. It is like his version of Records of Diverse Matters of his imagination, where idea and reality, fact and imagination co-exist. Everything is not only the source of imagination of “I” but also a forced world itself. “I,” which is both the author and the narrator, somehow start to deal with, respond to and recognize things only as a sort of form that can be born into text, not as an object to experience. He finds it hypocritical to do so, but strangely feels comfortable in such a forced world. For example, there is a man desperate for revenge. In his mind, all he thinks about is how to take revenge. If so, he certainly is a kind of man who because of his very thought already takes revenge. Imagination can tell us more truth about someone than reality. This man’s life is possible maybe because of his thoughts on fact, not because of fact itself. Here’s your invitation to A Forced World, to a world where imagination, one of the greatest abilities of human beings, becomes reality
