Description 작품 소개

PYUN Hye-Young is a writer who has won numerous literary awards in Korea. Evening Courtship is her third anthology of short stories in which the author delves into the anxiety, loneliness, and desolation of modern people who are cooped up in an urban setting, and zooms in on that moment when their seemingly secure lives metamorphose into bottomless terror. The author digs into the impeccably homogenized human being and the system, with a tight and sophisticated writing style that is firmly in control. She shows, too, how high technology and a cutting-edge system deprive people of the freedom to be different, thus depicting a city lifestyle, which is glossed over in favor of hedonism and convenience, as the culprit for turning the world into a savage, uncivilized, and emotionally dysfunctional place.

PYUN Hye-Young was born in 1972, in Seoul. She studied creative writing at Seoul Institute of the Arts, and Korean literature in the graduate division of Hanyang University. She debuted as a writer in 2000 when she won the Seoulilbo New Writer’s Contest. Her anthologies of short stories are Aoi Garden, To the Breeding Farm and Evening Courtship; her full-length novels are Ashes and Red, They Went to the Forest In the West . She is the recipient of The Hankookilbo Literary, LEE Hyo-Seok and Dong-In Literary Awards, as well as Today’s Artist Award.
