Lee Chang-Rae’s A Gesture Life was first published in the US in 1999, and later released in a Korean translation in 2005. Lee follows the story of an elderly man who experiences guilt and regret for his involvement in managing a wartime ‘comfort woman’ station as a soldier in the Japanese Imperial Army.

Chang-Rae Lee이창래

He is a Korean-American writer. Born in Seoul in 1965, he immigrated to the United States at the age of three. After graduating from Yale University with a degree in English Literature, he earned his Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Oregon.
