An outstanding work crafted in a concise and meticulous style that explores the ontological meaning of memory, examining the intricate relationship between the space we call “home” and time.The prestigious Yi Sang Literary Award, which was established in 1977 by publisher Munhaksa to recognize outstanding works of Korean literature, is now in its 46th year. The judging panel for the 2023 edition, made up of Youngmin Kwon, Ku Hyo-seo, Kim Jonguk, Yoon Dae-nyeong, and Jon Kyongnin, selected Choi Jin Young’s “Home Sweet Home” to be awarded the Grand Prize from among all the short stories and novellas published over the previous year. Besides “Home Sweet Home,” the book also includes another work by Choi Jin Young entitled “Yujin,” as well as five other outstanding works which were selected among the finalists for the award. All the works stand out for their meticulously crafted plots and distinctive literary styles, with some offering a striking portrayal of the catastrophic aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic and the societal response to risk.
The five outstanding works included in the collection are as follows:- Kim Kitae’s “All the Seas of the World” - Park Seolyeon’s “Me, Me, Madelaine”- Seo Seongran’s “While There Still Remains a Bit of Me”- Lee Jangwook’s “Cro Cop”- Choi Eunmi’s “That Place”
