The Dictionary Consisted of Seven Words

This is the first poetry collection by JIN Eun-Young, one of the most promising new poets who appeared in the poetry world of Korea in the 2000s. In this 46-poem collection, Jin has broken down the old way of using metaphorical expressions and metaphysically transformed images similar to those of children’s stories. The poet’s sense, which cracks idées fixes derived from society that repress individuals, is intensely beautiful and ethics of self-reflection brought up by unexpected turns tells home truths.

JIN Eun-Young

Born in 1970, in Daejeon. She first appeared on the literary scene with “A Large Storage in House” on Literature and Society. Her anthologies of poems include are The Dictionary Consisted of Seven Words and We Everyday.

Jin Eun-young진은영

Jin Eun-young is a poet and publisher. She debuted as poet in 2000 when her poems were published in the spring issue of Literature and Society. She teaches literary counselling at the Korea Counseling Graduate University. Her poetry collections include A Dictionary of Seven Words, We, Day by Day, I Love You Like an Old Street, and more. Her works in translation include We, Day by Day (White Pine Press, 2018). She has translated Sylvia Plath’s novel Mary Ventura and The Ninth Kingdom into Korean.
