The "Manbok's Rice Cake Shop" series began its publication in 2010. After the release of the first work in the series, "Manbok's Rice Cake Shop," there was a 10-year gap until the second book, "General's Rice Cake Shop," was published. The second and third books of the series, "General's Rice Cake Shop" and "Wishful Rice Cake Shop," feature the author's rat character, 'Kkorangji,' who is like a doppelganger for the author. 'Kkorangji' appears as a rat who wants to become human and delivers rice cakes that ful-fill wishes to children.
The fourth book, "Yangsoon's Rice Cake Shop," was written in response to the complaint from female students that there were no books with female protagonists in the series. The central motif of the series being 'rice cakes' is known to be because Kim Riri enjoyed stories involving food since she was young. She thought of rice cakes, a food with many positive meanings in Korea, to create stories that stimulate the senses.
