Description 작품 소개

Even The Birds Leave the World

HWANG Ji-Woo represents Korean avant-garde poetry. In his poems, the experimentation and lyricism are one and the same. His poems are intensely realistic and at the same time modern. They are also shockingly contemporary and contemporaneous. His first anthology, Even The Birds Leave The World has audaciously dismantled the traditional concept of a poem and he has boldly experimented with language, coming up with an avant-garde style. But in the process of the deconstruction of forms, he has incorpo-rated acerbic parody, and a powerfully negative spirit, while effectively revealing the sorrow lurking underneath. For him, the methodology of writing a poem is the message of his poem.

 HWANG Ji-Woo

Born in Haenam, Jeollanam-do in 1952. He majored in aesthetics in the school of humanities at Seoul National University. In 1980, he won the Joongang Daily New Writer’s Contest, and published “For Days That Do Not Respond” and other poems in the quarterly, Literature and Intellect, making his debut as a poet in the literary establishment. He was awarded the prestigious KIM Soo Young Literary Award for his first anthology of poems, Even The Birds Leave the World and The 1991 Winner of Hyundae Literary Awards for The Lotus Flower in the Crab's Eyes. He has also published Winter-Spring From the Tree-To the Tree and I Am You.
