Kim Hyang-i is a South Korean children's literature writer born in 1952 in Imshil, Jeonbuk. She started her literary career in 1991 by receiving the Modern Children's Lit-erature New Writer Award for "The Three-Wheeled Bicycle." In the same year, she also received the Enlightenment Children's Literature Award for "The Room Where Battle Songs Flow." In 1993, her novel-length fairy tale, "Does the Moon Know?" earned her the Samsung Literary Award and was translated and published in countries such as Thailand, France, China, and Vietnam.
Her work tells the story of 12-year-old Songhwa, marked as a child from a shamanistic village, living in a small rural town. Kim Hyang-i's literature is characterized by beautiful descriptions of nature. Instead of vividly depicting reality, her works often feature nu-merous kind characters, emphasizing warm human relationships over negative emotions like hatred or conflict.
"The Three-Wheeled Bicycle" and "The Room Where Battle Songs Flow" are just a few examples of her contributions to Korean children's literature, reflecting her focus on por-traying the warmth of human connections against the backdrop of nature.
