Pahk Yon-Hee (1918-2008) is a Korean author. Though his early works focus on themes of futility and decadence, his works after the Korean War demonstrate a marked shift towards denouncing the irrationality of society and encompassing historical novels as well. Kim Eunguk (1932-2009) was a South Korean-American novelist who completed military service as an army first lieutenant before immigrating to the United States. In 1963, Kim received a master’s degree in Far Eastern literature from the Department of Far Eastern Language and Literature, and debuted in 1964 with the English-language novel Martyrs. Exploring the thoughts of a Christian and the problem of human salvation, the work was a twenty-week bestseller in the United States and was translated into more than twenty languages, including Korean and German. Ha Seong-nan (born 1967) is a Korean novelist. She has embodied the fragmentized mentality of modern men through careful and detailed descriptions. Her works are recognized for dealing with the loneliness and isolation of the contemporary men, while sympathizing and comforting them at the same time.[1] She is considered one of the indispensable figures when talking about the Korean short stories that have been published since the 2000s.[2]
