This is a novel by Hwang Jungeun, published in 2013. It was originally serialized in the quarterly magazine Munhakdongne from the spring to the summer issues of 2012. The author uses a homeless woman as the main character to show a human being exposed to desolate and brutal violence. In addition, it raises questions about our daily life, in which many of us ignore the world destroyed by violence.
Hwang Jungeun (born 1976) is a Korean writer. She is one of the most promising writers in the Korean literary world, acclaimed as 'the writer who represents the 2010s' and 'the young master.' The most prominent feature of her writing is the elements of fantasy, which create a cheerful tone in her narratives but also coat them with the sadness of reality. That is, the fantasy in her works is a fictional device that builds a joyful as well as sorrowful atmosphere at the same time. She made her debut as a writer in 2005 with the publication of her short story "Mother (마더)."
황정은(1976~)은 한국의 소설가이다. ‘2010년대 대표 작가’이자 ‘젊은 거장’으로 자리매김 되면서 한국 문단의 촉망 받는 작가 중의 한 사람이다. 환상성은 그녀 작품의 독특한 특징이다. 그녀 소설 속에서 환상성은 서사적 명랑성을 조성하면서 동시에 현실의 비애를 감싸는 작용을 하는 이를테면 작품의 명랑성과 비애를 동시에 추동하는 소설적 장치로 등장한다. 2005년 단편소설 '마더'를 발표하면서 작품 활동을 시작하였고 첫 작품집 "일곱시 삼십이분 코끼리열차"(2008)를 통해 확실한 존재감을 드러냈으며 장편소설 "백의 그림자"(2010)를 내놓으며 본격적인 작품 창작에 돌입한다.
