Description 작품 소개
In a style devoid of embellishments, Choi Eunyoung creates intimate portraits of young women living in South Korea as she weaves politics into personal stories. Sometimes it is a tension between a Korean girl and Japanese exchange student, whose friendship survived thanks to letters; a brief mutual fascination of two young pilgrims in a foreign land, a dinner with two families – Korean and Vietnamese – and a fast, albeit painful, lesson of their shared history. The stories touching upon the topic of the Sewol Ferry disaster from 16th April 2014 are particularly memorable. This catastrophe took the lives of 300 people, mostly school-aged kids, and the whole country was utterly shocked.
Uśmiech Shoko (Shoko’s Smile) lets the average women in their 20s and 30s talk about their small pleasures but also how the painful national history casts a shadow on their everyday life. Choi Eunyoung writes about her characters with tenderness and precision.
