Description 작품 소개
This is the first novel collection by Kim Jihyun, who has been writing since winning the Busan Daily’s annual spring literary contest in 2019. The works are divided into two main sections. The first half of the novel centers on the submerged emotions that are brought to the surface by unexpected events, and captures in detail the conflicts that arise within the accidental community of “family”. The second half focuses on individuals caught in the middle of a sudden “disaster,” such as a pandemic or extreme weather conditions.
The characters in the novel are all united in their longing for a “new face”. They struggle to escape the faces that carry their family histories, the faces of defeat and frustration, and the strange and ugly faces that make them feel unwelcome in their respective communities. The more they attempt to evade their family history , the more deeply it becomes embedded within their physiology. What decisions will they make in light of the circumstances that they cannot control?
