The eighth installment in the “Well-timed” series by the Nanda Publishing!
A must-read by the poet Han Jeong-won, written every day of August, by August, and for August
Meet this installment in the “Well-timed” series that stacks up a story per day, a book per month, something to read for 365 days a year – one dedicated to August written by the poet Han Jeong-won. Scorching heat in the summer is something that cannot always be lovable, creating a somewhat questionable and uncertain feeling that the poet describes in My Fourth-Favorite Season. The poet chooses to focus on the bit of love she has for the season instead of fully hating on it. In other words, for the poet, August does not signify summer itself, but a gaze fixed on the remnants of summer – the shadow created by the wood behind the sun, puddles of summer rain, and the sound of bells echoing into silence.
When writing the first essay in four years after Poetry and Walks (Deltatime, 2020), the poet probably looked back at the four seasons with “a heart of winter that looks at winter.” Writing poetry and prose in the spirit of the seasons and photographing some of the traces. In a breath in the heat of the day, in some room for fresh air, time accumulates – but of course, silence must be something that comes naturally to the poet. Passing the fourth summer and remembering summer, while looking for the traces of summer that will linger around one’s nose and ears for a long time – this is a book that will quietly follow in the footsteps of the passing seasons.
