Infinite Flowers is a collection of “aporisms” from graduate poetry classes taught between 2002 and 2015. In the title, “Infinite Flower Sequence,” “flower sequence” refers to the way flowers grow on a stem. With no limit to its growth, “Infinite Flower Book” is a centripetal expression that refers to the centripetal nature of blooming from the bottom to the top, from the outside to the inside, and is a metaphor for poetry, which moves from the concrete to the abstract, from the lowly to the sacred. This is at the heart of the heterodox theory of poetry, which believes that poetry is a form that endlessly fails to express the ineffable. This book contains 471 aphorisms, including a preface, that are exquisite metaphors for various realizations and reflections in life, and for returning to poetry and literature.
