About Event

This is an activity aimed at translators and the public interested in Latin America, especially Chile.

Korea and Chile share a similar history: a dictatorship in the 1980s that committed serious violations of Human Rights. Cheon Un-Yeong portrays from the point of view of a torturer and his daughter, the pain that these crimes left in Korean society. Vivian Lavín presents the testimony of three women who spent long years in jail for challenging the Pinochet dictatorship.Fiction and non-fiction writing allow the creation of a cultural dialogue between two authors: a Korean and a Chilean who tell about a period in the history of their countries that marked them in their childhood and adolescence. It is about the dictatorships that marked the recent history of Korea and Chile.The academic and prominent translator of the book The catcher in the loft, Sunme Yoon talks with both authors. Her conversation with both authors will bring both countries closer together with a painful past.

Introduction of interviewees:

Cheon Un-yeong (born 1971) is a South Korean writer who wrote The Catcher in the Loft.

Vivian Lavín is journalist, literary agent and author of the book based on the testimony of three former political prisoners of the Chilean dictatorship.

Introduction of the presenter:

The translator Sunme Yoon is deeply knowledgeable of the Latin American reality who manages to translate a novel that is read with respect and pain for what happened in Korea.

한국과 칠레는 1980년대 심각한 인권 침해를 자행한 독재정권을 겪었다는 비슷한 역사를 공유하고 있습니다. 천운영 작가는 고문관과 그의 딸의 시선으로 이러한 범죄가 한국 사회에 남긴 아픔을 그려냅니다. 한편, 비비안 라빈은 피노체트 독재에 대항했다는 이유로 오랜 세월 감옥에 갇혀 지낸 세 여성의 증언을 들려줍니다.이번 대담에서 한국의 작가와 칠레의 작가는 픽션과 논픽션을 넘나들며 문화적 대화의 장을 펼칩니다. 특히, 두 작가는한국과 첼레의 근대사를 장식한 독재 정권기에 관한 이야기와 그 시절로 인해 어떤 영향을 받았는지에 대해 이야기할 예정입니다.'생강'의 번역가이자 학자인 윤선미 번역가가 천운영과 비비안 라빈 두 작가와 대담을 합니다. 두 작가와의 대화를 통해 아픈 과거를 가진 두 나라가 더욱 가까워질 수 있을 것입니다.

천운영은 대한민국의 소설가로, 2011년 『생강』을 집필하였습니다.

비비안 라빈은 기자이자 문학 에이전트이자 칠레 독재 시대의 세 명의 전 정치 수감자 증언을 기반으로한 책을 집필한 저자입니다.

진행자 소개:

윤선미 번역가는 라틴 아메리카의 현실을 깊이 알고 있으며, 한국에서 발생한 일(역사적 사건)에 대한 존중과 아픔을 함께 읽을 수 있도록 소설을 번역했습니다.
