G.S. Hand an award-winning Korean to English translator of literature and non-fiction with ten years of experience.
In addition to his literary interests, he has experience with technical communication in the automotive and electronic fields, marketing, and webtoon translation. He has experience teaching translation for the Korean Society of Translators (KST).
He received a master's degree from the Korean Language and Literature department of Korea University. His areas of interest include the fiction of Hyeon Deok, literary depictions of consciousness, critical approaches to literary style, narrative theory, and humor. He writes the weekly column 'Laughing Through History' for the Korea Times, in which he translates and discusses Korean humor from the early 20th century.
His experience includes full translations of novels by Son Hong-kyu and Kim Deok Hee (both as yet unpublished), as well as short fiction by a variety of writers. In particular, his translations of short fiction by Baek Minsuk and Kim Hee Seon are planned for publication by Workroom Press during summer 2025. He is currently a reviewer for KLN (Korean Literature Now) Magazine.
