Kim Sungjong (1941-) is a South Korean novelist. He made his literary debut in 1969 by publishing his short story “Gyeongchalgwan” (경찰관 Police) in the Chosun Ilbo. In 1974, he became a successful popular writer when his novel Choehuui jeungin (최후의 증인 The Last Witness) won the prize contest for novels held in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Hankook Ilbo. He is considered to have actively utilized the situation in Korea to create an archetype of Korean detective novels. He is the recipient of the Grand Award for Mystery Fiction (1986) and Peace Literary Award (2002).
