Jung Mikyung made her literary debut in 1987 as the winner in the drama category of the JoongAng New Writer’s Award, then went on hiatus before publishing a short story in the quarterly World Literature in 2001. She is the author of the short story collections Bloodstained Lover, They Gave Me Balkan Roses, My Son’s Girlfriend, and The French Laundry; the novels La Vie en Rose, The Strange Sorrow of Wonderland, and Stars of Africa. She is the winner of the 2006 Yi Sang Literary Award.

Sunwoo Hwi
선우휘
Sunwoo Hwi (1922–1986) came down from the north to the south in 1946 and worked as a journalist and teacher before enlisting in the South Korean army. He won the Dongin Literary Award in 1957 for his first short story, “Flames,” excerpted here. He was a prolific writer, publishing eighty books, including Flagman without a Flag (1959) and The Legend of Clovervale (1963), and nearly 1,000 essays.

Seo Hajin is an assistant professor at Kyung Hee University’s Department of Korean Language and Literature. She has published two novels and six short story collections. The English edition of A Good Family came out from Dalkey Archive Press in 2015. She has received the Hahn Moo-Sook Literary Prize, Baek Shin-ae Literary Award, and Kim Jun Sung Literary Award.
