Lee Young Ju (1974-) is a South Korean poet who debuted in 2000 by winning the Munhakdongne New Writer’s Contest. She is the author of the poetry collections The 108th Man, Cold Candies, Let Us Leave No Record of Love, You Arrived in the Season of Perennial Summer, and Her Name Is the Same as Mine. The English translation of Cold Candies won the 2022 Lucien Stryk Asian Translation Prize. Lee is a visiting professor at Myongji University’s Department of Creative Writing.

Pak Taewon
박태원
A modernist writer who boldly embraced experimental techniques and meticulous craftsmanship, Pak Taewon was primarily concerned with the aestheticism and the mode of expression itself rather than the ideas expressed. His early fictional works, in particular, were a product of his attempt to engineer a new writing style: Piro (피로 Exhaustion) and Ttakhan saramdeul (딱한 사람들Forlorn People) contain symbols and diagrams from newspaper advertisements; Jeonmal (전말 Circumstances) and Biryang (비량 Sorrow), contain long phrases composed of over five sentences strung together with commas.
Jeong Geukin
정극인
Jeong Geukin (1401-1481) is a writer from the Joseon Dynasty. In 1472, he was conferred the position of an official of the third rank without office for having taught the children of local officials, and he was so touched that he wrote “Buruheonga” (불우헌가(不憂軒歌) Song of Buruheon) and “Buruheongok” (불우헌곡(不憂軒曲) Music of Buruheon). He is known to have lived a life of integrity and simplicity. He was skilled in literature, and he wrote “Sangchungok” (상춘곡 Song of Indulgence in Spring), known as the first lyrical work in the history of Korean literature.
