Description 작품 소개

The secret that sleeps in the abyss, wearing the mask of oblivion.

As the shackles of memory come undone, the pale truth is revealed.

Yeon-woo, a police officer, is urgently dispatched to Sunyang on the first day of the new year for a murder case. He is joined by his former partner, Sang-hyuk, with whom he had worked closely in the past. The case involves the brutal murder of Cha Yo-han, the director of Eden General Hospital, who was deeply trusted and respected by the local people. Yeon-woo and Sang-hyuk start questioning the hospital staff to understand the circumstances. Although everyone appears polite on the surface, their answers consistently skirt the issue. It is clear that the hospital is hiding something, but they have no concrete evidence, only suspicions. The two decide to start from the location where the weapon was found and gradually tighten the net.

Lawyer Do-jin receives a request from an anonymous person to defend Yoo Min-hee, a murder suspect detained at the Sunyang police station. The envelope only has "Eden General Hospital, Sunyang County, Gangwon Province" written on it. Sunyang was his hometown, which he left behind after a horrific incident 15 years ago. His father remained in Sunyang as the director of a hospital. Do-jin had intentionally erased the memory of that day from his mind but had no choice but to head to Sunyang as demanded by the sender. He threatened to reveal the truth of the incident from 15 years ago if Do-jin did not take on the defense. The sender was undoubtedly one of the boys he used to associate with. Two of them are dead, and only three, including himself, are alive, so the perpetrator must be one of the remaining two. However, upon arriving at the Sunyang police station, Do-jin receives some shocking news. The victim is none other than his own father, Cha Yo-han.

Yeon-woo and Sang-hyuk become suspicious of Do-jin, who arrived in Sunyang ahead of time after receiving the request, even before the police identified a suspect. Do-jin instinctively realizes that the real culprit's final victim is himself. While Yeon-woo and Do-jin each investigate the truth of the case in their own ways, fragments of memories etched within the events of "that day" 15 years ago slowly resurface.

Fifteen years ago, there was a group of friends at Sunyang High School, consisting of five boys who always stuck together: Min-jae, Seo-hyun, Yi-han, Yoon-seok, and Do-jin, the son of Cha Yo-han, the hospital director highly regarded by the local residents. While people admired his father, Do-jin feared him. This was because he had long known that his father hid his true nature behind a mask. He resented his father, who was unusually harsh and strict only towards him. One day, Do-jin heard an odd story from Min-jae. There were rumors that screams were being heard every dawn at the Eden General Hospital. Despite Min-jae’s repeated requests to go check it out immediately, Do-jin remained indifferent. He was only swayed by Min-jae, on the suggestion that this may finally reveal his father’s achilles heel to him. A few days later, Do-jin and his friends made their way to the Sunyang General Hospital, and at last pushed open the door to the closed ward…
