Description 작품 소개

At a showcase of new album of K-pop group “Cresta,” a loner fan interacts with another fan with a different bias sitting next to her, but their conversation somewhat does not click. The fan teases that the protagonist overthinks too much, but on the other hand, the protagonist also finds it difficult to understand the world of "slash fiction" and "shipping" that the fan casually mentions. The distance between the two seems to get closer, but again further, maintaining the just right distance, just like the love of a fan towards her bias.

Through the different type of affection the two shows, the author questions the readers about relationship with strangers in real life and within a fandom. Love towards one’s existing “bias,” which is love that does not need participation of another person, can function as a scale to estimate the evolution and regression of love at present. Being a fan of someone (or something), it is love that can be complete even by just dispatching such emotion. It feels sweet and safe and most of all, it feels like love that you can always walk away from if you don’t feel like it. It’s love that you nurture and grow.

The collection includes eight short stories including which won the 2019 Kyunghyang Sinmun Spring Literary Contest. While focusing on the realistic microscopic events, the author brilliantly captures the variant stories that occur in life. The unbridgeable distance that erases the shadow of death, threatening act of hacking private information, death of house plant and pet, a family member of the perpetrator seeking redemption by being a supporter of the victim….the different shapes we witness from the stories in this collection exist as diverse forms of life, and the author gently wraps around such conflict and hardship with elaborate and sustainable love for our “bias.”
