Lee Man-Hee (1954-) is a South Korean playwright who debuted in 1979 with Yeongwonhi jiweojiji anneun mira sogui sichaedeul (영원히 지워지지 않는 미라 속의 시체들 The Bodies in the Mummies That Will Never be Erased), which was selected by the Dong-a Ilbo’s long-form theater competition. Lee sets out to explore the essence of humanity, and has focused on a Buddhist reflection on human existence in his works. For his 1990 work Geugeoseun moktak gumeong sogui jageun eodumieotseumnida (그것은 목탁 구멍 속의 작은 어둠이었습니다 That was a Small Darkness in the Hole of the Moktak), Lee won the Best Script Prize at the Seoul Theater Festival and the Baek Seok Art Prize for Theater (1991).
