About Event

Launched in 2006, the Seoul International Writers’ Festival (SIWF) is a global literary festival aimed at expanding opportunities to enjoy literature and providing a platform for international exchange in Seoul. Between 2006 and 2021, a total of 295 writers from 58 countries were invited to take part. By focusing on the multilateral impact created by writers and readers as well as life and literature, the SIWF aspires to develop into a festival of international renown and scale.

Light is composed of both waves and particles.

The particle theory of light and the wave theory of light oppose and contradict each other,

and yet modern physics tells us that they coexist.

The relationship of particles and waves,

unknown challenges and small beginnings,

like a small butterfly facing the giant ocean,

drive a butterfly effect that creates big changes.


The aim of literature might be to embrace the coexistence of contradictions,

unknown challenges, butterfly effects, and the mutual influences of the large and the small.

Literature addresses issues and expresses critical awareness that arise from a diverse range of positions coming from different regions, different countries, different nationalities,

different races, different genders, and different generations.

At the same time, literature captures artistic values that transcend space and time.


The 2024 Seoul International Writers’ Festival

is a place where we can embrace the numerous contradictions that surround us

and think about their relationships; a place where we can experience the particle theory

and the wave theory of literature that paves new roads.

We invite you to join us for the 2024 Seoul International Writers’ Festival.

빛은 입자성과 파동성을 동시에 가지고 있다고 합니다.

빛의 입자설과 파동설은 상호 모순되는 대립 학설이었지만

현대 물리학에서는 공존하는 것으로 정의하고 있습니다.

입자와 파동의 관계는

거대한 바다를 마주한 작은 나비와 같이 낯선 도전 또는

아주 작은 시작이 거대한 변화를 추동하는

나비효과를 만들어 내기도 합니다.


모순된 것의 공존, 낯선 도전, 나비효과, 작은 것과 큰 것의

상호 영향 등을 아우르는 것이 어쩌면 문학의 지향점일 것입니다.

문학은 지역, 국가, 민족, 인종, 젠더, 세대 등의 다양한 층위에서 발발하는 다양한 이슈나 문제의식을 표현하는 동시에 시공간을 초월하여 예술적 가치를 담아내는 특성을 가지고 있습니다.


2024년 서울국제작가축제는

우리를 둘러싸고 있는 수많은 모순적인 대립 항을 아우르면서

그 관계성을 사유하게 하고 새로운 물길을 내는

문학의 입자성과 파동성을 함께 체험하는 장으로 준비하였습니다.
