The international literature festival berlin (ilb) ranks as one of the world’s most important literary events Its comprehensive stylistic and thematic spectrum is unique encompassing prose, poetry, non fiction, graphic novels as well as children’s and young adult literature.
The program ranges from rou ndtable discussions with Nobel Prize winners in literature to events aimed at promoting reading and the teaching of literature. Contemporary political issues and scientific discourse are discussed, as are trends in the literary scene with all its forms, te mperaments, and styles. From mainstream to niche. The aim of the ilb is to address as broad an audience as possible and to involve them in a variety of ways.

Created in 2010 in Morges (Switzerland), Le livre sur les quais will open its doors from the 1st to the 3rd of September will for its 14th edition. The programme is composed of encounters, literary cruises, performances, and book signings on Morges’ docks and in the city. The bookfair, which is so liked by the public for its conviviality, will once again explore the important themes of current literature such as race, the refugee crisis, the legacy of colonisation, history and current affairs as well as the importance of art and literature in our lives. Le livre sur les quais will welcome 180 authors who will participate in signings and in the artistic programming during the three days of the festival.So, make sure to attend!
There will also be interviews with the author, and everyone is welcome to join the event. If you're interested in Korean literature, don't miss this opportunity!

The Indonesia Hallyu Book Festival is an event organized by several K-Popers book communities, including 17Slibrary, Myday6reads, Staysread, IARC, Bibliobrose, Inimoading, Readersijeuni, and Eajarsreads, to boost reading interest in Indonesian society, particularly among K-Popers. According to CNN Indonesia, Indonesia has the second most K-Pop admirers behind Japan. According to these findings, there is a substantial chance of increasing literacy among K-Popers in Indonesia through the desire for reading books shown by K-Pop Idols, particularly those who read Korean literature. -

LTI Korea is organizing the " The Future of Literary and Cultural Content Translation and Translation Education in the Era of K-Culture” Symposium, which follows the previous "AI Translation and the Future of Literary Translation" symposium. This time, we focus on discussions with various experts on how translation and translation education for Korean literature and art and cultural content should prepare for a harmonious future with AI translation in the new cultural environment of "K-Culture."The symposium will be divided into two sections: "AI Translation and Translation Education in the Era of K-Culture" and "Prospective Approach to Building a Literature and Cultural Content Translation Education System."In the "AI Translation and Translation Education in the Era of K-Culture" section, Professor Yoon Sungwoo will present on "Evolution of AI Technology, Translation Ethics, and Translators," and Professor Shim Jaehwan will discuss "AI Translation and Translation Education in the Era of K-Culture."In the "Prospective Approach to Building a Literature and Cultural Content Translation Education System" section, Professor Choi Aeyeong will present on "Performance and Challenges in the Operation of Translation Academy Education", and Professor Jeon Hyejin will discuss "Performance and Challenges in the Operation of Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation." Additionally, Professor Choi Mee-Kyung will present her research outcomes on "Building an Integrated Translation Education Curriculum for Korean Literature and Korean Cultural and Art Contents."The symposium will be accessible through the online registration. -

My Girlfriend and Her Girlfriends is a short story collection that paints a brutally realistic portrait of women living in this era with a clear sense of queer, labor, and women's issues. To celebrate the publication of the Japanese translation of this book, we invite the author to Japan for a talk event at the Fukuoka bookstore AJIRO!
Our interlocutor will be Suzu Takashima, author of Budan no naka ka ra ka ra yo - Uprising in the Futon (2022). Mr. Takashima's book, which represents resistance to patriarchy, capitalism, and all forms of discrimination, has become so popular that it will be published in Korean. The two authors will talk about their books and the current state of feminism, queerness, and labor in Korea and Japan. A conversation between Jouri, a leader in Korean queer literature who continues to write new works about this era, and Suzu Takashika, who hopes for the revolutionary survival of all things. [GERMANY]The 1st Korean Literature and Translation Forum of Korean Studies Scholars in Europe

In recent years, we have seen explosive growth in the interest in feminist perspectives in Korea, everywhere from popular culture to the academic world. The same is true for the attention toward minorities and marginalized groups! This has affected the research into Korean literature, reaping fruitful results in numerous studies that seek to improve diversity and gender equality and redress balance in writings on literature history and research methodology.In this forum, we divided the latest trends and achievements in women’s studies in the research on classic Korean literature into four topics: classic literature and women’s literature, women writers and women readers (in the Joseon period), queer literature and metaphor in classic literature, and minorities in Korean literature.In Korea, professors and graduate students from Seoul National University, Korea University, and Kangwon National University will join us to deliver timely presentations and introduce their research topics. In the meantime, they will develop teaching methods for Koreanology professors in Europe. Koreanology scholars and graduate students from European schools will also participate in the forum as presenters and discuss their achievements and translation methods! We expect the forum to be an avenue to exchange our knowledge in different disciplines in the East and the West with our European counterparts and develop an agenda on Korean studies as the center of Korean culture that attracts global attention.The primary audience of the forum will be professors, undergraduate, and graduate students majoring in Korean studies in European universities, including the Ruhr University Bochum in Germany, Moscow State University in Russia, Sofia University in Bulgaria, Stockholm University in Sweden, University of Salamanca and University of Málaga in Spain, University of Vienna in Austria, Oxford University in the United Kingdom, University of Helsinki in Finland, and Paris Cité University in France. Teachers and researchers of East Asia–related studies and Korean expatriates and local residents interested in Koreanology and Korean culture are also welcome to join us.

Starting with the First Korean Literature and Translation Forum for European Scholars of Korean Studies, we will announce the new milestones and the trends in Korean studies based on the general understanding of the history of Korean literature we have gained in previous seminars. -

With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, AI’s coexistence with humans has become a social agenda that we must address urgently. What’s more, AI translators are getting better and better at breakneck speed through deep learning. Then how far has AI translation come in the world of literature and cultural content? And how can we put AI to good use in translation education and what sorts of problems are we facing?Literature Translation Institute of Korea (LTI Korea) hosted the symposium to explore various ways we can use AI in literary translation and translation education and the acceptable usage of AI, and to spark open discussions about the issue. Experts from different fields came together to share research findings and discuss four topics about the big idea — AI Translation and the Future of Literary Translation.The first topic, History and the Current State of AI Translation (presented by Jung-hwi Shin, Director of Papago, Naver Cloud) zeroed in on the history and the current status of machine translation, the direction of future development, and mechanical configuration of ChatGPT as a translation tool.The second topic, the Use and Acceptability of AI Translation (presented by Seung Hye Mah, Professor of English Interpretation and Translation, Department of English Literature, Dongguk University) compared and analyzed how AI translators translated writings on different art genres, considering the linguistic characteristics of the original text and the quality of the translation.The third topic, Legal and Ethical Issues Surrounding AI Translation (presented by Professor Hyung Doo Nam, Yonsei University School of Law) carefully evaluated diverse legal and ethical issues that can arise from AI intervention in human translation and suggested how the current legal system can improve.The last topic, the Role of AI in Translation Education (presented by Changsoo Lee, Professor of English and Korean, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies) looked into how machine translation is currently used in diverse languages and presented key ideas that should be considered when using AI in translation education. -

Korea and Chile share a similar history: a dictatorship in the 1980s that committed serious violations of Human Rights. Cheon Un-Yeong portrays from the point of view of a torturer and his daughter, the pain that these crimes left in Korean society. Vivian Lavín presents the testimony of three women who spent long years in jail for challenging the Pinochet dictatorship.Fiction and non-fiction writing allow the creation of a cultural dialogue between two authors: a Korean and a Chilean who tell about a period in the history of their countries that marked them in their childhood and adolescence. It is about the dictatorships that marked the recent history of Korea and Chile.The academic and prominent translator of the book The catcher in the loft, Sunme Yoon talks with both authors. Her conversation with both authors will bring both countries closer together with a painful past.

Vivian Lavín is journalist, literary agent and author of the book based on the testimony of three former political prisoners of the Chilean dictatorship.
Introduction of the presenter:The translator Sunme Yoon is deeply knowledgeable of the Latin American reality who manages to translate a novel that is read with respect and pain for what happened in Korea.
